Mami Kawabata



was born in Toyama, Japan. Already as a youth during her dance training in Japan she performed in Monaco, Hungary, Prague and Shanghai as member of the Kasai Dancing Company. Later she studied also at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague and took many workshops, amongst others with Ohad Naharin, Cora Bos-Kroese, Drew Jacoby, Megumi Nakamura and Davis Robertson. She danced with the Kasai Dancing Company, the BATOCU African Dance Company and the Jalegado Dance Company. Since 2006 she has occasionally choreographed herself. She won in 2006 the first prize for choreography at the "New Dance Festival in Prague" for her piece "Geisha", in 2007 the "Yokohama Dance Competition" prize for her piece "samayouasi ni kusagautau", in 2008 a prize at the "Self Choreograph Dance Competition" in Kanazawa, in 2011 the "Fresh Choreographer Prize" ("samayouasi ni kusagautau") and in 2011 was awarded "Selected Dancer" as participant at "PASSINGTHROUGH V4 Workshop".
