Nami Miwa

Nami Miwa joined the dance company at the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater as a permanent member in October 2019. Nami was born in the United States, but grew up in Japan. After her schooling in Japan, she went back to America, completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in a cross-university program at Fordham University and the Ailey School in New York City, then transferred to Walnut Hill College of the Arts, Massachusetts in 2008, and then moved to Germany to complete her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt am Main.

After completing her training, she interned with Ballet of Difference and then worked for various directors and choreographers at different theaters, including as a guest dancer with the Hessisches Staatsballett, as a dancer at Oper Frankfurt in the operetta Die lustige Witwe directed by Claus Guth, and for Rheingau Music LAB.

In January 2019, she toured Germany as a dancer in the role of Ballerina in Lullyba Experience directed by Claus Guth. She then danced in the operetta Candide at the Wiesbanden State Theater. She has danced choreographies by Regina van Berkel, Marguerite Donlon, Luc Dunberry, William Forsythe, Toula Limnaios, Jody Oberfelder, Tim Plegge, Georg Reischl, Helder Seabra, Alessio Silvestrin and Jeroen Verbruggen.

Because she liked it so much in Görlitz during an internship at the GHT in 2017, she returned to Görlitz in October 2019.
